In November of 2012, I was hired by TINC Productions to work alongside Holiday Image to decorate the city of New York for the upcoming holiday season. Technicians from around the country and the greater New York area work long days and many nights to transform the city into its iconic holiday splendor. Holiday Image is responsible for decking out some of the most famous buildings, businesses and parks in the city. As an employee last season I found myself in constant awe of where I was working everyday, such as the Chrysler Building, Met Life, Macy's, Lord & Taylor, and Zucotti Park.
This grandaddy of a tree was in a shopping plaza out on Long Island. When we finished with it an ice skating rink was put in around it. The plaza also had giant Nutcrackers and Menorahs off to the sides.

The next two images are of Vornado Plaza where we installed another mammoth tree. This one was in the center of a round about for traffic. When lit the reflection of all the trees in the glass funnel encircling them made it look like you were standing in a forest. Very effective.

Space is at a premium in NYC but this lobby took my breath away. This is just the main desk.
One of the most exciting parts of this job was showing up to the address given and realizing where you were working that night. As least that is what happened when I stepped into the Chrysler. The more modern lobby had me fooled until I glanced down at the rug!
This particular tree in the photo below was unique for its precarious floating pedestal, but beautiful when viewed from outside.
Returning after the New Year, Zuccoti Park was one of the locations that I helped to strike. Many tourists stopped to stare, ogled and photograph the dozen or so technicians perched up in the trees!
This was a fantastic experience working in New York. It was cold, grueling work but I loved every minute. We often referred to ourselves as the Christmas elves running about NYC. It was especially fun to see employees at some of the buildings come in to work the next day after we had been there all night to find their office transformed! It was also a great way to master the subway system, and call myself a New Yorker for 3 months.
